Project Background & Challenges

The City of Bellingham received a grant from the EPA to characterize environmental site conditions and develop cleanup alternatives for the Holly Street Landfill. This work, a required component of the Bellingham EPA Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilot Program, was essential to redeveloping this important waterfront property.

Solution

Aspect is providing groundwater, landfill, and geotechnical engineering services to the Anchor Environmental project team. We developed a conceptual hydrogeologic framework and investigated the subsurface to evaluate tidal effects on leachate-impacted groundwater and to characterize solid waste conditions. Our work was critical to assessing the feasibility of redevelopment from the environmental, geotechnical, and cleanup standpoints.
