Case Study: Groundwater Confirmation Monitoring Program

Client:
Port of Seattle

Location:
King County (Seattle), WA

Contact for environmental projects: Doug Hillman

Project Background & Challenges

The Port of Seattle must demonstrate that the remedial measures implemented at the Terminal 5 facility meet the cleanup objectives of the Southwest Harbor Redevelopment Program. These objectives include protecting adjoining marine waters.

Solution

Aspect implemented a 5-year monitoring program to characterize the post-remediation groundwater flow regime. The program, designed to meet closure requirements under MTCA, includes a detailed tidal study and water quality characterization. The tidal study entails evaluating the effects of site-capping and stormwater improvements on local aquifers. The water quality characterization evaluates the effects of redevelopment and remedial alternatives on groundwater and surface water geochemistry.
