Case Study: Commercial Redevelopment—Soil Nailing
 |
Client:
Regional automotive dealership
Location:
Kitsap County (Bremerton), WA
Contact for geotechnical projects: John Peterson |
Project Background & Challenges
A client sought to redevelop an 11-acre property for commercial
reuse. Because this site has severe physical constraints — steep
slopes and nearby public rights-of-way — a variety of geotechnical
solutions were required. The site required regrading, excavation and fill
(25,000 cubic yards), and construction of a support-wall system using
soil-nailing techniques. It features three commercial buildings and staged,
graded benches.
Solution
Aspect’s technical support for this project began
during the design phase and continued through the construction phase.
Our work included geologic site exploration, geotechnical engineering
design, and on-site construction management. We developed design criteria
for road pavements, building foundations, and detention ponds, as well
as support-wall, drainage, and fill-compaction systems. The use of the
soil-nail support wall was instrumental to the project’s success.
