Fragaria Road Stabilization
Project Background & ChallengesA county road that follows a steep ravine to a waterfront community had a long history of stability problems, resulting in settlement and cracking of the shoulder and roadway. The road is the only access to the Fragaria community. SolutionAspect completed a geotechnical evaluation and identified a range of options for stabilizing the road. The options represented a spectrum of costs and reliability. Based on consultations with Aspect, the County selected the driven soil nail solution because of the relatively low cost and minimal access impacts for the community. The driven soil nail solution is also a method that County crews can eventually perform with their own forces, and they wanted to observe and learn from the process. Aspect completed engineering plans and technical specifications
for the driven soil nail solution and supported the successful construction. |
