Aspect interprets geologic and hydrogeologic conditions to improve design and construction approaches for tunnel projects. Using systematic subsurface explorations, we work with tunnel design teams to identify seismic hazards, water supply impacts, construction hazards, and environmental concerns prior to construction. Our geologic and GIS teams coordinate to develop comprehensive maps that reveal geologic patterns critical to reducing construction costs and risks. We've used this approach to help clients construct wastewater, transit, and hydroelectric tunnels throughout Washington state.

  • Tunnel alignment analysis
  • Stratigraphic interpretation
  • Seismic/fault hazards evaluation
  • Construction dewatering
  • Regional geologic mapping

Selected Tunneling Geology and Hydrogeology Projects

University Link Light Rail Tunnel, Seattle
Led the geologic and hydrogeologic analysis to support design of the Sound Transit University Link Light Rail Tunnel alignment.

Brightwater Tunnel and Treatment Plant, King & Snohomish Counties
Interpreted geologic and hydrogeologic conditions to reduce construction risk and guide the construction approach for this regional wastewater conveyance project.

Gorge Second Power Tunnel, Newhalem
Evaluated North Cascade geology to guide design of Seattle City Light hydroelectric tunnel that will increase regional power supply.
