Aspect Team Completes STP Bike Classic

Erik Scrafford, Mike Scrafford, and Freyja Jons take a rest at mile 25.

Seven Aspect employees completed the 32nd annual Seattle to Portland (STP) Bicycle Classic. Joining 10,000 other riders on a sunny July weekend, members of the Aspect team made the 204-mile biking pilgrimage from Husky Stadium in Seattle to Holladay Park in Portland in both one and two day rides.

The one-day peloton: Rick Smith of Jacobs Associates, Doug Hillman, and Doug’s son George.

The ride was the culmination of months of preparation for the bikers, with many kicking their training into high gear during Aspect’s bike to work competition. On ride day, the preparation paid off as the riders navigated the course’s rolling hills and flat country roads while staying relatively road-rash free. Doug Hillman and his three-rider peloton left Husky Stadium at 4:45 am, pulled into Portland at dinnertime, and headed straight for the beer garden to “hydrate.”

Tim Flynn, Trish Klimek, Mike Scrafford, Freyja Jons, Jeff Landrum, and Eric Marhofer completed the ride in two days. Some had the added benefit of an overnight stay at Aspect’s “Vader office” (aka Jeff Landrum’s house), where they refueled with a home-cooked BBQ dinner. At the finish, team members celebrated their achievement with some showing off their custom Aspect biking jerseys.
