Case Study: Graysmarsh Hydrogeologic Investigation

Client:
Graysmarsh Farm, Inc.

Location:
Jefferson County (Sequim), WA

Contact for water resource projects: Tim Flynn

Project Background & Challenges

The owners of Graysmarsh, a 1.5-square-mile marsh / agricultural complex, were concerned about potential impacts from several activities that could reduce flow to the marsh, negatively impacting its productivity and value. One potential flow-reducing activity was the relocation of a City of Sequim wellfield; another was the lining of leaking irrigation ditches.

Solution

Aspect performed a comprehensive surface water and hydrogeologic investigation to evaluate impacts to this tidally influenced marsh. The project entailed aggressively gauging the creek and marsh and developing a detailed water balance for the local watershed. We trained Graysmarsh personnel in stream-gauging and datalogging techniques. We also worked closely with Graysmarsh fisheries biologists to identify areas that were more sensitive to reduced flow.
