Project Background & Challenges
The Thornton Creek/Jackson Park project involved constructing
three off-line detention ponds to reduce downstream flooding and to realign
and restore 2,300 feet of Thornton Creek. This sensitive urban stream
is not only Seattle’s largest watershed but also home to five salmonid
species. Protecting water quality was a major concern during construction.
Solution
Aspect deployed a team of engineers and certified erosion-control
(ESC) inspectors for this project. These professionals worked with the
City and its contractor to develop and implement a temporary plan for
controlling erosion. We also provided third-party ESC inspection services
and monitored water quality throughout the life of the project. Because
of our strong working relationship with the contractor and City, the team
successfully protected water quality while meeting all project goals.
