Case Study: Well Design, Construction, & Testing: Ford Hatchery
 |
Client:
Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW)
Location:
Stevens County (Spokane), WA
Contact for water resource projects: Tim Flynn |
Project Background & Challenges
WDFW required a well that could produce 400 gpm at the
Ford Hatchery to improve water quality during egg incubation and to increase
species survivability. Ecology authorized a transfer of 400 gpm (maximum
instantaneous quantity) from an existing surface water right.
Solution
Aspect prepared bid specifications, administered the bid,
subcontracted drilling services to Fogle Pump and Drill, and oversaw drilling
and logging operations. We also designed the well, specifying 60 feet
of screen to maximize yield and efficiency and to reduce pumping lifts.
The new well was tested at rates exceeding 500 gpm and is capable of significantly
greater yields. Step-drawdown test results showed the well to be performing
efficiently.
